Henry Murger (born March 27, 1822) was definitely adhering to the dictum of “write what you know” when he penned Scènes de la Vie de Bohème, a novel about being a poor writer in a Parisian attic. It is the basis for the opera La Bohème and the contemporary musical Rent.
